TechFlow news — According to the FCC's official website, yesterday the antitrust advocacy group Open Markets Institute issued a press release calling on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to block Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. They described the deal as a "direct threat to American democracy and freedom of speech." Their statement cited the 1860 Telegraph Act and other statutory authorities, arguing that these federal agencies have the power to block the transaction.
In response, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr issued the following statement: "The Federal Communications Commission has no authority to block Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, and suggesting otherwise is absurd. I welcome the FCC making clear that we will not entertain such frivolous arguments."
