TechFlow news — Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced plans to launch its first augmented reality (AR) glasses in 2024. The AR glasses are expected to cost more than last year's released VR headset and will be designed to operate without relying on any operating systems such as iOS or Android. Codenamed "Project Nazare," Meta's first fully-fledged AR glasses aim to release their debut product in 2024, with a lighter and more advanced second generation under development for 2026, followed by a third generation planned for 2028. Due to expensive materials, the AR glasses are projected to exceed the cost of Meta's $299 Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. Weighing approximately 100 grams—about four times heavier than regular eyeglasses—the device will utilize custom waveguides and micro-LED projection technology for display.
