TechFlow news — At its annual general meeting held on March 24, LG Electronics Inc. announced the addition of cryptocurrency assets and blockchain technology to its corporate charter as new business areas. In the crypto and blockchain sector, the company aims to launch cryptocurrency brokerage and trading services, as well as develop and sell blockchain-based software.
According to a March 24 report by The Korea Economic Daily, South Korean conglomerate LG Electronics has added three new business areas—cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and medical devices—to its corporate charter. Shareholders approved these new business objectives during the 2022 annual meeting. When asked whether the company was considering establishing a cryptocurrency exchange, a spokesperson said, "Nothing has been decided yet. We've only broadly mentioned potential business areas."
Previously, following Samsung, LG Electronics has recently expressed interest in NFTs. In February this year, the company partnered with GroundX, Kakao Corp.'s blockchain platform, to launch an immersive NFT experience on its smart TV models.
