EU crypto regulation MiCA voting has started, with results expected to be announced between 24:00 tonight and 1:00 AM tomorrow.
TechFlow reports, according to Patrick Hansen, Head of Strategy and Business Development at Unstoppable Finance, the Economic Committee of the European Parliament has begun voting on a draft framework of the MiCA regulation that proposes banning proof-of-work cryptocurrencies. The results are expected to be announced around 5:00–6:00 PM Central European Time (12:00 AM–1:00 AM Beijing Time, March 14–15). Previously, it was reported that a clause aiming to force proof-of-work cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin to transition to more environmentally friendly proof-of-stake (POS) consensus mechanisms had been included in the MiCA draft. If passed, the draft could ban cryptocurrency services using POW consensus mechanisms starting from January 2025.
