TechFlow news — On January 18, Vitalik shared on X a joint research paper by Peking University and Duke University on EIP-1559 titled "An Empirical Analysis of EIP-1559: Transaction Fees, Waiting Times, and Consensus Security." He noted that the paper specifically highlights how EIP-1559 has significantly reduced average transaction confirmation waiting times.
According to the study, EIP-1559 greatly improves user experience by simplifying fee estimation, reducing gas price dispersion within blocks, and cutting down user waiting times. However, its impact on gas fee volatility and overall security remains limited. Additionally, the research found that larger fluctuations in Ethereum's price lead to明显 longer waiting times, and it also confirmed that larger block sizes increase the occurrence of sibling blocks.
