TechFlow news — On Monday morning before market open, Pfizer and BioNTech announced the first interim analysis of their Phase III clinical trial for a COVID-19 vaccine, showing it to be safe and effective. Combined with positive developments from the U.S. election over the weekend, global risk assets are experiencing a rapid rally.
According to the two companies, the candidate vaccine demonstrated greater than 90% efficacy in participants without prior evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, based on a randomized, placebo-controlled study. The trial enrolled a total of 43,538 volunteers, with 42% representing diverse backgrounds. No serious safety concerns were observed during the trial.
Following this announcement, global risk assets surged. Dow Jones futures jumped by 1,500 points, while multiple European stock indices rose more than 5%. In commodities, WTI crude oil futures climbed over 8%, gold dropped more than $40 to $1,917 per ounce, and Bitcoin briefly rose above $15,800 before pulling back to $15,500.
