According to Cointelegraph, on July 10, the U.S. Secret Service announced the establishment of the Cyber Fraud Task Force (CFTF). The announcement stated that the formation of the CFTF comes amid a growing illicit market for stolen credit card data and corporate banking information on the dark web. The Secret Service expressed concern over the role of cryptocurrency in facilitating online illegal transactions, as these currencies have become "one of the primary methods for criminals to launder money." The mission of the CFTF is to improve coordination and dissemination of practices in investigating financially motivated cybercrimes.
