Korean Media: At Least 29 Overseas Cryptocurrency Exchanges Removed from Google Play Store in South Korea

TechFlow news, on July 24, according to Digital Asset reports, at least 29 overseas cryptocurrency exchanges, including OKX, Bybit, MEXC, KuCoin, BingX, Phemex, BitMEX, etc., are currently unable to be newly installed in the Google Play Store in the South Korea region, meaning Android users cannot download relevant apps through the official app store.

Citing a survey of the top 50 overseas digital asset derivatives exchanges ranked by CoinMarketCap, the report stated that the relevant restrictions mainly manifest as inability to search, or displaying "Unavailable" or "Not available in your country/region".

The report pointed out that some of the restricted platforms had previously been identified by the Financial Information Analysis Institute of the Financial Services Commission as unregistered virtual asset service providers and reported to law enforcement agencies, while some others did not appear on the relevant notification list. According to the report, starting from January 2026, Google will begin implementing supply restrictions in the South Korea region for relevant apps that have not completed virtual asset service provider registration with the Financial Information Analysis Institute.
