India Requests Takedown of Jack Dorsey's Bitcoin-Related Offline Communication App Bitchat Source Code Repository

TechFlow reports that on July 24, according to CoinDesk, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has requested GitHub to remove three repositories related to Bitchat. Bitchat is an open-source offline communication app launched by Jack Dorsey, which can relay encrypted messages and Bitcoin transactions via Bluetooth mesh networks in internet-free environments.

The report noted that Delhi protesters used such tools to maintain contact during multiple internet shutdowns implemented by the government. Indian authorities believe that the app's anonymous communication architecture hinders law enforcement agencies from conducting lawful interception, tracing, and investigation.
