TechFlow reports that on July 19, MetaMask's parent company Consensys disclosed that a North Korean developer impersonating "Tyler Knapp" joined the MetaMask team as an outsourced consultant and participated in core wallet code development for about a month, with part of the work involving crypto asset and fiat currency conversion functions.
After discovering the risk, Consensys immediately terminated his access permissions and stated that following a comprehensive investigation, no asset misappropriation, data leaks, malicious code deployment, or impact on user security was found. The incident once again highlights the security risk of North Korean personnel infiltrating crypto enterprises by posing in technical roles.
