TechFlow News, May 31: According to The New York Times, three officials revealed that U.S. President Trump has tightened the terms of a potential framework agreement aimed at ending the Iran war and sent these revised proposals back to Iran for consideration. It remains unclear exactly what changes Trump made to the agreement’s text.
Two officials stated that Trump is concerned about provisions in the potential agreement concerning the unfreezing of Iranian funds. He has long criticized former President Obama’s approach—adopted over a decade ago in the agreement designed to curb Iran’s nuclear program—for taking similar measures. One official noted that Trump is also disappointed by Iran’s delayed response to the U.S. proposals, which were developed through repeated negotiations involving intermediaries, including Pakistan. The official added that Trump’s proposed revisions—constituting a tougher new proposal—may be intended to pressure Iran and accelerate the process, thereby prompting Iran to accept the framework agreement already submitted for approval by its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
