TechFlow News, May 27: According to The Block, Manuel Aráoz, co-founder of blockchain security firm OpenZeppelin, stated that he now believes “all DeFi is insecure” and has advised friends and family to exit all their DeFi positions—including those in Aave, MakerDAO, and Compound.
He pointed out a pronounced asymmetry in smart contract security: defenders must patch every vulnerability, while attackers need only exploit a single flaw to steal funds. Data shows that approximately $630 million was stolen from DeFi protocols in April—the worst month since Bybit’s hack in February 2025.
