TechFlow News, May 26: According to a Reuters report, Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper, citing EU Commission sources, stated that the European Union plans to fine Alphabet’s Google a high three-digit million-euro amount—the largest penalty yet issued under the Digital Markets Act (DMA)—with an official announcement expected before the summer recess.
The investigation officially commenced in March 2025, centering on allegations that Google prioritizes its own services in search results, thereby violating DMA provisions. The European Commission emphasized that its primary objective is to ensure Google’s compliance—not merely to impose fines—while underscoring its resolve not to delay subsequent steps. Google criticized the DMA rules as inflicting the “greatest-ever demotion” on its search product and expressed its desire to resolve the dispute as soon as possible.
