TechFlow reports that on May 25, Tether announced a partnership with the Government of Georgia to launch the official stablecoin GEL₮, pegged to the Georgian lari and issued under a dedicated stablecoin regulatory framework. GEL₮ is designed as a digital representation of the Georgian lari, aiming to reduce transaction costs, enable near real-time settlement, support programmable payments, and enhance the efficiency of fund flows in cross-border transfers and the broader digital financial system. Tether stated that this initiative is expected to bolster cross-border trade, fintech development, and digital payments.
