TechFlow News: On April 13, according to CCTV International News, Joe Kent, former director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, posted late on the night of April 12 (local time) stating that negotiations between the United States and Iran could have succeeded, but collapsed due to the demand for “zero enriched uranium.” He urged adherence to U.S. demands—not Israel’s position—to salvage the situation within the remaining nine-day ceasefire window. Kent emphasized that the U.S. government’s red line has never been “zero enriched uranium,” but rather “Iran must not possess nuclear weapons”—a principle Iran has also accepted. Since 2003, Iran has never sought to develop or acquire nuclear weapons; however, it needs to retain its uranium enrichment capability, making U.S.-Iran negotiations feasible. Kent stated that the current priorities are restraining Israel, reaching an agreement, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
