TechFlow News, April 1: According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Arab officials stated that, following Iran’s attacks, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing to assist the United States and its allies in using military force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This move would make the UAE the first Gulf state to directly enter the conflict. Officials said the UAE is currently lobbying the UN Security Council to pass a resolution authorizing such military action. A UAE official revealed that its diplomats have urged the U.S. as well as major military powers in Europe and Asia to form a coalition to forcibly reopen the strait.
The official added that the Iranian regime perceives itself as fighting for its survival and is willing to lock down the strait—even at the cost of dragging the global economy down with it. The official also noted that the UAE is actively assessing the military role it can assume in securing the strait, including assisting in mine clearance and providing other support services. Additionally, some Arab officials mentioned that this Gulf state has proposed the U.S. occupy key islands within this strategic waterway—including Abu Musa Island, which Iran has controlled for half a century but which the UAE claims as its sovereign territory.
