TechFlow News, March 27: According to Axios, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is preparing to undertake the most critical mission of his career—leading America’s efforts to end this war, despite having expressed reservations about launching it from the outset. Vance has held multiple phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and participated in indirect communications with Iranian officials. He is expected to serve as the chief U.S. negotiator in potential peace talks. U.S. and Israeli sources indicate that Vance deeply doubts Israel’s pre-war optimistic assessments regarding the trajectory of the conflict and currently expects the war to continue for several more weeks.
Vance’s advisors believe certain figures within Israel are attempting to sideline the vice president—possibly because they perceive him as insufficiently tough. Israeli officials deny this claim. White House officials state that Vance’s seniority within the administration, coupled with his consistent opposition to endless overseas conflicts, makes him a more credible interlocutor for Iran than Witkoff and Kushner—whose negotiations in the first two rounds both ended in failure.
