TechFlow News, March 26: According to U.S. media outlet Axios, two U.S. officials and two informed sources revealed that the U.S. Department of Defense is developing a military “decapitation strike” plan against Iran, which may include deploying ground forces and conducting large-scale bombing operations.
Officials and individuals familiar with internal deliberations described four primary “decapitation strike” options from which Trump could choose: (1) Invading or blockading Kharg Island; (2) Invading Larak Island—a move that would undermine Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz; (3) Seizing the strategically significant Abu Musa Island and two smaller nearby islands located close to the western entrance of the Strait; and (4) Intercepting or seizing Iranian oil tankers exiting the eastern end of the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. military has also prepared plans for deep inland ground operations inside Iran, aimed at securing highly enriched uranium buried within nuclear facilities. To avoid executing such an extremely complex and high-risk operation, the U.S. may instead opt for large-scale airstrikes against those facilities to prevent Iran from accessing these materials. Trump has not yet decided whether to implement any of the above options; however, sources indicated that if negotiations with Iran fail to yield substantive results soon, he is prepared to escalate the situation.
