TechFlow News: On March 25, according to The Guardian, the UK government released a review report on foreign funding interference in UK politics, led by Philip Rycroft, former Permanent Secretary of the Department for Exiting the European Union. The report is expected to recommend banning political parties from accepting cryptocurrency donations.
The report’s release comes amid heightened scrutiny of Reform UK—the only UK political party actively encouraging cryptocurrency donations. Nathan Gill, the party’s former Welsh leader, was recently sentenced to ten and a half years in prison for accepting bribes to disseminate pro-Russian propaganda. Earlier, the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy had already called for a ban on political parties accepting cryptocurrency donations. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to adopt this recommendation and advance related legislation.
