TechFlow News: On March 24, Claire, a member of the Backpack team, disclosed that in response to recent user controversies surrounding “Sybil account” determinations, Backpack has established an appeals process and plans to launch a token buyback compensation program.
Armani, Backpack’s co-founder, along with the core team, announced the immediate opening of an appeals channel and introduced “Rule #3”: Users flagged as Sybil accounts who operate no more than three accounts per device will, upon successful manual verification of their appeal, receive back over 50% of their points. Additionally, the Backpack team will initiate a dedicated program within the coming days to conduct token buybacks on the secondary market; tokens acquired through this buyback will be allocated exclusively to compensate users meeting the above criteria.
Claire noted that the Sybil determinations have disproportionately affected Chinese-speaking users, primarily because the U.S./European team treats “one person, one account” as the baseline compliance standard—a norm that diverges from typical usage habits among Chinese-speaking users. It is understood that members of the Chinese-language regional team engaged in in-depth discussions with the U.S./European team to facilitate implementation of the aforementioned appeals and compensation mechanisms.
