TechFlow News: On March 20, according to Guangming Net, the Wanshan Public Security Branch of Tongren City, Guizhou Province recently cracked a fraud case involving the use of a cryptocurrency “read-only wallet.” Suspect Tan Mou lured seller Chen Mou into transferring 7,118 USDT (approximately RMB 50,000) to a “read-only wallet” address under Tan’s control, under the pretext of purchasing USDT at a premium price. Tan immediately transferred the assets afterward and denied receiving the funds, attempting to simultaneously seize both the USDT and RMB 65,000 in cash displayed on-site.
The incident occurred on March 11. After spotting the high-price USDT purchase listing on a certain platform, Chen Mou contacted the other party. At the offline transaction site, Tan Mou gained Chen’s trust by displaying a large amount of cash and induced him to complete the transfer. Immediately after the transfer, Tan Mou reneged and denied receipt. Chen Mou then reported the incident to the police. Officers brought both parties in for verification, exposing the scam. Faced with concrete evidence, Tan Mou’s lies quickly collapsed. The case is still under further investigation.
