TechFlow News: On March 16, according to a report by 36Kr, Tencent’s “Lobster Task Force” recently spoke with the media to address numerous questions from the public regarding its AI Agent product portfolio. Building upon the open-source framework OpenClaw, Tencent has launched several “Lobster” products—including WorkBuddy, QClaw, Lighthouse, and SkillHub. CEO Pony Ma revealed that additional in-house Lobster products are forthcoming, including Local Lobster, Cloud Lobster, and Enterprise Lobster.
Ding Ning, Head of AI Products for Tencent Cloud Developers, stated that WorkBuddy is a closed-source product equipped with a built-in sandbox mechanism and multiple security layers; it operates exclusively on user-specified folders, effectively mitigating risks such as API key leakage. Zhong Yucheng, Director of Tencent Light Cloud, candidly admitted that the hype surrounding Lobster currently exceeds its actual capabilities—“one-person companies” remain unattainable for now. Nevertheless, for non-technical users, Lobster remains the lowest-barrier option available today to experience AI-driven change.
Previously, Tencent’s offline event “Pop-Up Booth: Help You Install Lobster,” held at its headquarters building, unexpectedly went viral. In a single day, over 500 people received assistance installing Lobster on their devices. Attendees included retirees in their 60s who were former engineers, mothers pushing baby strollers, and many others—approximately 80% of whom had no technical background.
