TechFlow reports that on March 15, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on X stating that the current separation between the Beacon Chain (consensus layer) and execution clients should be reevaluated with an open mind. He noted that running two separate daemons and enabling them to communicate is significantly more complex than running a single process—adding unnecessary complexity for users self-hosting nodes. Ethereum’s goal is to deliver an excellent self-hosting user experience, which in many cases requires running one’s own node; however, the current architecture hinders this objective.
In the short term, more standardized base packaging tools could be adopted to allow users to easily install Docker images of different clients and achieve seamless inter-client communication. In the long term, as streamlined consensus solutions mature, the overall architectural design can be revisited.
