TechFlow News, March 11: According to Decrypt, Basketball.fun—an NBA-themed crypto project—is processing refund requests for users unwilling to wait for its marketplace trading feature to go live. Developed by Improbable—the team behind Layer-1 network Somnia—the project enables users to purchase NBA player digital card packs and hold “shares” in players, but the trading functionality has yet to launch.
NBA player Tristan Thompson has stepped down from his advisory role with the project. Co-founder and CEO Hadi Teherany stated that the team has received 24 refund requests totaling less than $2,000. The trading feature is scheduled to launch at the start of the NBA playoffs in April, and users who choose to wait will receive a 10% bonus on their purchases.
Basketball.fun plans to launch digital card pack sales on the Base network later this month and will officially roll out its trading functionality on Somnia. The project has denied allegations of an “exit scam,” emphasizing that this is merely a presale phase and that users will be able to sell their card packs once the product launches.
