TechFlow News, February 27: According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Kyu-young Koo, announced on February 27 that the government will expand its public procurement program for locally developed, innovative artificial intelligence (AI) products to support industry growth. The plan includes:
Establishing a dedicated review committee in September to accelerate the entry of innovative AI products into the public procurement market
Mandating that at least 50% of components used in designated innovative products be domestically produced, thereby strengthening the local supply chain
Increasing the budget for pilot procurement of innovative products from 52.9 billion Korean won in 2025 to 83.9 billion Korean won in 2026
Kyu-young Koo emphasized that public procurement will serve as a catalyst for AI innovation—not only transforming people’s lives but also helping enterprises expand into global markets—and that the government will faithfully act as the “first customer” for innovative companies.
