TechFlow News: On February 13, Robert Mitchnick, Global Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock, stated at Bitcoin Investor Week 2026 that institutional investors, sovereign nations, and banks are buying bitcoin on dips.
Mitchnick also said, “There’s a misconception out there that hedge funds are driving volatility and selling in ETFs. But that’s not what we’re seeing. Take IBIT last week, for example—during a week of clear turbulence in the bitcoin market, we saw only 0.2% of the fund redeemed, right? So if hedge funds were indeed unwinding large positions in ETFs, you’d see billions flowing out. Instead, we’re seeing billions liquidated on leveraged perpetual contract platforms. ETFs, by contrast, have remained extremely stable—their investor base is far more inclined toward long-term buy-and-hold strategies.”
