TechFlow News, January 31: According to CCTV News, on January 30 local time, the U.S. Senate passed an appropriations bill funding most federal government departments and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for consideration.
Funding for several U.S. federal departments was set to expire on January 30. On January 29, a spokesperson for Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated that Senate Democrats and Republicans had reached an agreement on a government funding bill to avert a partial government “shutdown.” The spokesperson noted that the agreement includes advancing the appropriations bill to fund most federal departments for the remainder of the fiscal year, while also providing the Department of Homeland Security with a two-week stopgap funding extension to allow continued negotiations over restrictions on the department’s immigration enforcement actions.
