TechFlow news: On January 27, according to CoinDesk, the U.S. Marshals Service is investigating a major cryptocurrency theft case. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT revealed that John “Lick” Daghita, son of Dean Daghita—the president of CMDSS—allegedly stole over $40 million in digital assets from cryptocurrency wallets seized by the U.S. government. CMDSS is a company that provides services to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Defense, tasked with managing government-seized cryptocurrency assets.
The investigation found that the suspect stole at least $23 million linked to approximately $90 million in cryptocurrency seized by the government between 2024 and 2025. ZachXBT documented evidence of the suspect boasting about holding large amounts of cryptocurrency via a Telegram group chat video and traced a wallet address holding 12,540 ETH (valued at roughly $36.3 million).
