TechFlow news: On January 19, according to the Tong'an District Procuratorate of Xiamen, Fujian, a sales representative from a publishing company was sentenced to two years and three months in prison and fined for misappropriating over 1.53 million yuan in textbook subscription payments to invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which resulted in total losses.
The employee, Guo, replaced the company's official payment QR code with his personal one, embezzling funds collected from textbook orders between spring 2024 and spring 2025, all of which he used for cryptocurrency trading. Guo had already accumulated debts of more than one million yuan due to illegal investments in virtual currencies and attempted to "recover and repay" his debts by increasing his investments, ultimately leading to the incident. During the trial, Guo voluntarily turned himself in, fully confessed, and the Tong'an District Procuratorate prosecuted him on charges of occupational embezzlement.
