TechFlow reported on January 13 that according to the Russian Interior Ministry, a 46-year-old woman from Kursk lost 28 million rubles in a year-long cryptocurrency investment scam. The woman met a man through an instant messaging app who claimed to reside in an Arab country. Promising high returns, he lured her into downloading a specific application and making "cryptocurrency investments."
Under the scammer's guidance, the victim not only invested all her savings but also sold three apartments, a car, and a gold bar, and even took out bank loans and borrowed money from acquaintances. Once the victim had no more funds, the scammer deleted all chat records and disappeared.
Russian police said they are currently tracking down the scammer and his accomplices. Previously, a similar case was reported in the Kirov region, where a woman lost over 2 million rubles after trusting promises of returns from a cryptocurrency exchange investment.
