TechFlow news, January 13 — According to Nikkei Asia, Japanese trading company Mitsui & Co. plans to launch Japan's first digital securities for aircraft and ships through its subsidiary Mitsui & Co. Digital Asset Management, as early as the 2026 fiscal year (starting in April), offering retail investors a new investment option.
These digital securities will leverage blockchain technology to divide large assets into smaller shares, allowing Japanese investors to participate with investments starting from approximately 100,000 yen ($630), entitling them to corresponding lease income or other returns.
Mitsui & Co. Digital Asset Management has already launched 19 digital real estate security products, the highest number among peers in Japan, and aims to increase its digital securities sales to about 1 trillion yen by the fiscal year 2030, quadrupling the amount projected for fiscal year 2025.
Japan’s digital securities market is growing rapidly, with issuance reaching 152.9 billion yen in 2025—more than doubling compared to 2024 and increasing over sevenfold compared to three years ago.
