TechFlow reports, on January 12, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on social media stating that Ethereum must reach a state where it can continue operating even if the development team departs. Vitalik emphasized that as a platform for trustless and minimal-trust applications, Ethereum's base layer itself should not depend on continuous updates to remain functional.
Vitalik outlined several key goals Ethereum needs to achieve: full quantum resistance, scalable architecture (including zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine verification and data sampling via PeerDAS), a state architecture capable of lasting decades, a universal account model (full account abstraction), a bug-free fee schedule, a sustainably decentralized proof-of-stake economic model, and a block-building model resistant to centralization pressures.
He stated that Ethereum should accomplish these challenging tasks in the coming years, enabling future innovation to occur primarily through client-side optimizations, thereby enhancing Ethereum's technical and social robustness.
