TechFlow news, on January 7th, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice's official public account posted an article stating that a new type of scam using fake "tasting cards" to direct traffic for telecom and online fraud has emerged in multiple locations across the country. Fraud gangs distribute counterfeit supermarket "tasting cards" to lure victims into scanning QR codes and joining so-called "benefit groups," subsequently carrying out transfer-and-rebate scams. Police in Shandong have already cracked multiple related cases and arrested several criminal suspects.
According to investigations, the criminals use overseas communication software to contact their superiors and settle their illicit gains through cryptocurrency, exhibiting a high degree of concealment. Police remind the public that this type of fraud is highly deceptive. People should remain vigilant, avoid scanning QR codes from unknown sources, refrain from leaking personal information on unfamiliar platforms, and protect themselves from financial losses.
