TechFlow news, December 20 — According to The Block, Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming announced she will not seek re-election. Her term will end in January 2027.
Lummis has been a key driver of cryptocurrency legislation in Congress and chairs the Senate Banking Committee's Subcommittee on Digital Assets. She has worked closely with Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York to advance comprehensive legislation establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets, including clarifying oversight responsibilities for agencies such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
In addition, Lummis has advocated for cryptocurrency tax reforms, including ending double taxation on miners and stakers, and introducing a $300 tax-free threshold for transactions. She has also championed efforts to codify former President Trump’s Bitcoin strategic reserve proposal into law.
Although she has decided not to run again, Lummis stated she will focus on delivering key legislation to President Trump by 2026 and continue advancing cryptocurrency-related bills.
