TechFlow news, December 18 — According to Reuters, U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced it has appointed former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne as chair of its advisory council, aiming to expand its influence with governments outside the United States.
Osborne served as UK finance minister from 2010 until after the Brexit referendum in 2016 and currently holds multiple positions, including chairman of the British Museum and partner at investment bank Robey Warshaw LLP. On Tuesday, artificial intelligence company OpenAI also announced it has hired Osborne to assist with the expansion of its overseas data centers.
Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad said the company aims to strengthen its influence in policy-making beyond the U.S., including in the UK and the European Union.
