TechFlow news, December 17 — According to Cointelegraph, the Kingdom of Bhutan has announced it will allocate 10,000 bitcoins (approximately $875 million) from its Bitcoin reserves to build the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). Bhutan is estimated to currently hold around 11,286 bitcoins, with a total value exceeding $986 million, making it the fifth-largest national holder of Bitcoin globally. This special administrative zone, launched in 2024 in southern Bhutan, spans approximately 1,544 square miles—about 10% of Bhutan's land area—and aims to attract enterprises in finance, technology, tourism, and other sectors, create high-value jobs, and prevent the outflow of young talent. The project will be developed in phases over the next 20 years and has already launched TER, a sovereign digital token pegged to gold. The King of Bhutan emphasized that this development will ensure prosperity is shared among the nation’s 790,000 people.
