TechFlow, December 16 — According to Decrypt, security research firm ReversingLabs used machine learning technology to successfully detect and block a malware attack targeting the popular Python library "bitcoinlib." The malware disguised itself as solutions named "bitcoinlibdbfix" and "bitcoinlib-dev," claiming to fix Bitcoin transfer errors, but actually aimed to overwrite legitimate commands to extract users' sensitive database files. Researchers noted that "bitcoinlib," as a widely used open-source library, has attracted over one million downloads since its launch, making it a high-value target for hackers. These malicious packages have now been removed and no longer pose a threat to developers. ReversingLabs engineer Karlo Zanki emphasized that given the vast number of new software packages released daily, machine learning-based detection models represent the best current solution for the cybersecurity industry.
