TechFlow news, December 11 — According to TechCrunch, World, the decentralized biometric identity verification project co-founded by Sam Altman, has released a new version of its app featuring several new functions, including end-to-end encrypted chat integration and Venmo-like cryptocurrency sending and receiving capabilities.
The development team refers to the new app as a "super app." The World Chat feature uses end-to-end encryption with security comparable to Signal, and employs colored chat bubbles to indicate whether a conversation partner has been verified through the World system. This feature aims to incentivize users to undergo identity verification so they can confirm the real identity of their chat counterparts.
On the digital payments front, the updated app expands its cryptocurrency transfer functionality, allowing users to receive salaries directly into virtual bank accounts and deposit funds from bank accounts, all convertible into cryptocurrency. These payment features do not require verification through World's identity system.
World verifies identities using its Orb device to scan users' irises. It has scanned nearly 20 million people to date, with a goal of scanning one billion.
