TechFlow, Dec 10 — According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said on social media that the Ethereum network can handle temporary loss of finality without facing serious risks. The statement came after a recent vulnerability in the Prysm Ethereum client nearly disrupted the blockchain's confirmation mechanism.
Buterin emphasized that what truly needs to be avoided is "finalizing incorrect blocks," rather than occasional finality delays. Experts generally support this view, with Oxford University computer science PhD Fabrizio Romano Genovese noting that loss of finality merely temporarily shifts Ethereum's confirmation mechanism from deterministic to probabilistic, similar to how Bitcoin operates.
