TechFlow news, December 6 — According to Decrypt, a 40-year-old man from Maryland, Minh Phuong Ngoc Vong, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release for aiding North Korean agents in secretly infiltrating U.S. technology companies. Between 2021 and 2024, Vong used forged documents to obtain software development positions at a minimum of 13 American companies, which paid him over $970,000 in wages while the actual work was carried out remotely by North Korean agents based in China.
Some of these companies also subcontracted Vong's services to U.S. government agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), allowing the agents unauthorized access to sensitive government systems.
