TechFlow news, December 4 — According to Coindesk, Malaysian authorities have formed a joint task force using high-tech drones and ground police to locate and shut down nearly 14,000 illegal bitcoin mining devices.
State-owned power company Tenaga Nasional (TNB) reported that since 2020, these illegal cryptocurrency miners have stolen $1.1 billion worth of electricity from the national grid. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the risks posed by allowing such activities go beyond theft, potentially undermining infrastructure and posing challenges to the system.
