TechFlow, Dec 2 — According to Decrypt, Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, warned that generative AI could pose serious harm to the gaming industry. In an interview with Virgin Radio UK, Houser said as AI models continue scraping data from the internet—where AI-generated content is increasingly prevalent—the gaming industry might fall into a recursive loop leading to declining quality, a phenomenon he likened to "mad cow disease." Nonetheless, a Google Cloud survey shows nearly 90% of game studios are already using AI in their development processes, including real-time NPC behavior, localization, and testing. Jack Buser, Global Director of Gaming at Google Cloud, cautioned that studios unable to adapt to this shift may struggle to survive.
