TechFlow news, December 1: According to Decrypt, European law enforcement has successfully shut down the cryptocurrency mixing service Cryptomixer, which has laundered over $1.4 billion worth of Bitcoin since 2016.
The operation was carried out in Zurich, Switzerland, by German and Swiss law enforcement agencies with support from Europol and Eurojust, resulting in the seizure of three servers, 12 TB of data, more than $27 million in cryptocurrency, and the domain cryptomixer.io.
Reports indicate that Cryptomixer provided money laundering services to ransomware groups, darknet markets, and underground forums, helping criminals conceal proceeds from drug trafficking, weapons sales, ransomware attacks, and payment card fraud by obfuscating transaction origins. Cybercrime advisor David Sehyeon Baek stated that the mixer operated for nearly a decade and handled massive volumes of funds, highlighting its significant role in the underground market.
