TechFlow news, November 19: According to the South China Morning Post, Malaysia's Ministry of Energy stated that national power company TNB incurred over $1.1 billion in losses from electricity theft by cryptocurrency miners between 2020 and August 2025. The Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation noted in a written parliamentary response that during this period, a total of 13,827 locations were found to have illegally tampered with meters or bypassed metering systems for mining operations. Although Malaysia lacks specific legislation targeting cryptocurrency mining, such activities already violate the Electricity Supply Act.
