TechFlow news, November 17 — According to Forbes, Joseph James O'Connor, the hacker who attacked Twitter accounts of prominent figures including Biden, Obama, and Musk, has had 42 Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies confiscated by the UK Crown Prosecution Service, with a total value of approximately £4.1 million (about $5.4 million), over $4 million of which was in Bitcoin.
In July 2020, O'Connor participated in a large-scale Twitter account breach that compromised more than 130 accounts, including those of high-profile individuals and companies such as Biden, Obama, Musk, and Bill Gates. The hackers used these accounts to run Bitcoin scams, promising to double any cryptocurrency sent by users. The related tweets were viewed at least 350 million times.
O'Connor is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in the United States. The UK Crown Prosecution Service stated that authorities can still ensure criminals do not benefit from their crimes, even if they are not convicted in the UK.
