TechFlow news, November 5 — According to Decrypt, former Australian rugby league star Trent Merrin was arrested by police over allegations of stealing approximately $91,000 USD (140,000 AUD) worth of cryptocurrency. Authorities accuse Merrin of unlawfully transferring funds from the crypto account of a 29-year-old man through deceptive means.
On Tuesday morning, police raided Merrin's residence in Barrack Point, seizing multiple electronic devices for forensic investigation. The arrest follows a year-long investigation. Merrin has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on December 3.
Merrin retired from professional rugby in 2021 after a 15-year career during which he represented both New South Wales and the Australian national team. Since retiring, he has actively engaged in business ventures related to cryptocurrency, blockchain, and the health industry.
