TechFlow, November 5 — Former U.S. President Trump recently stated in an interview that he would not allow Nvidia to sell its most advanced chips to China. On November 4, The Wall Street Journal cited current and former U.S. government officials saying that before the meeting between Chinese and American leaders, Trump had briefly considered discussing a request from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to permit sales of its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. However, under near-unanimous opposition from top advisers, he ultimately decided against raising the issue during the talks.
Senior officials including Secretary of State Rubio, U.S. Trade Representative Grillo, and Commerce Secretary Lutnick claimed such sales would threaten national security. The Wall Street Journal noted that Trump’s final decision marked a "victory" for Rubio and other advisers over Jensen Huang. Nonetheless, Huang’s efforts to sell Blackwell chips to China are expected to continue. (Jinshi)
