TechFlow, October 22 — According to Cryptonews, Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), announced after the World Bank and International Monetary Fund annual meetings in Washington that the central bank has formed a dedicated working group in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and other financial regulators to assess the framework and implications of launching an official Nigerian stablecoin.
According to IMF data from 2023, one year after the launch of the CBN's eNaira, only 0.5% of Nigerians had adopted it, with 98.5% of wallets inactive. While the number of eNaira wallets reached 13 million by early 2024, the majority remain unused.
