TechFlow, on October 21, according to Cryptopolitan, Russian State Duma member Igor Antropenko submitted a draft bill to the parliament proposing that cryptocurrencies be recognized as marital property subject to division upon divorce.
The bill aims to amend Articles 34 and 36 of the Family Code of the Russian Federation, stipulating that digital currencies acquired during marriage shall be considered joint marital property. However, crypto assets obtained prior to marriage or through gratuitous transactions will remain the individual property of the acquiring spouse.
Antropenko stated that with the development of Russia's digital economy, an increasing number of citizens are using cryptocurrencies as investment or savings tools, necessitating legal clarity on the status of such assets within family relations. He noted that the absence of relevant legal provisions could infringe upon one spouse's property rights.
