TechFlow news, October 21 — According to CoinDesk, British Columbia in Canada plans to permanently ban new cryptocurrency mining operations from connecting to its power grid. The ban is part of a broader initiative to manage electricity demand and ensure clean power usage for industrial development. BC Hydro will no longer approve grid connections for new cryptocurrency mining operations.
The provincial government stated on its website that it will implement multiple regulatory and policy changes by fall 2025 to permanently prohibit new BC Hydro grid connections for cryptocurrency mining, aiming to protect the province's power supply and prevent grid overload. BC Hydro President and CEO Charlotte Mitha said the province is facing unprecedented demand from both traditional and emerging industries.
